Daniel van Flymen was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1985 where he lived until moving to Cape Town in 2004 to graduate with a BA Brand Communication degree from Vega (The Brand Communication School). Two noteworthy things happened in Cape Town: Daniel purchased a camera and began exploring photography; and in the first year he was a winner of the Silver Loerie Award for Art Direction, while during the second Year he won two gold Loerie awards for photography. It was at that point that he began to develop a keen interest in aesthetics, art and philosophy. Daniel pursued Photography when, in 2008, he moved to New York to graduate from the School of Visual Arts with a Masters in Photography.
